Madison Gear joins Portuguese side FC Famalicão Feminino
HOUSTON – Former University of Houston women's soccer standout Madison Gear has inked a contract with FC Famalicão Feminino out of Portugal.
"It has always been a dream of mine to play professionally and overseas," Gear said. "I'd like to thank all the coaches, teammates and staff members I've crossed paths with during my time in Houston. They all encouraged me to chase this dream and I'm forever grateful."
The Rockwall, Texas, native, played four seasons for the Cougars from 2019-22. Gear appeared in 58 matches, while making 39 starts. She recorded six goals and three assists during her time with the Cougars.
Gear played her final season under current Head Coach Jaime Frias.
"We are all very proud of Maddie and her accomplishment of becoming a professional soccer player," Frias said. "One of our goals at Houston is to develop our players for the next level. Our team is humbled we were able to be a part of Maddie's journey in helping her dream come true. Maddie brought a great deal of enthusiasm and energy to our program and I'm certain she will do the same for her new club."
