Women's Basketball Falls to Middle Tennessee

Cougars look to bounce back Sunday against Florida A&M
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball program dropped its first game of the season against Middle Tennessee, 70-45, inside Fertitta Center on Wednesday evening.
The loss to the Blue Raiders (6-2, 0-0 CUSA) ends the Cougars' (4-1, 0-0 Big 12) undefeated start of the season.
Middle Tennessee connected on 30-of-57 field goal attempts (52.6%) compared to Houston's 17-of-57 (22.8%). The Cougars allowed seven Blue Raider three-pointers and made six of their own.
Houston recorded 14 steals on the night, with senior guard Laila Blair leading the charge with six. The Cougars recorded 21 points off those turnovers.
Both teams battled in the first quarter as graduate guard N'Yah Boyd scored the first four points for Houston. After trailing 10-4, the Cougars went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-10 lead. Houston led at the end of the first quarter as Boyd connected with a jump shot for the 19-18 lead.
Middle Tennessee took over in the second frame, gaining a lead it would never relinquish.
Boyd led the Cougars with 11 points, her fourth game this season in double figures. Blair scored nine points, and graduate guard Britney Onyeje ended the night with seven.

The Cougars wrap up their six-game homestand at 2 p.m. on Sunday, against Florida A&M for The Shasta Express/Teacher Appreciation Day.
