Swimming & Diving Posts Strong Finish at Art Adamson Invitational

Three swimmers earn NCAA B-Cut times while Ortiz and Meuter post program Top-10 times
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Three University of Houston Swimming & Diving student-athletes posted NCAA B-Cut times while two also posted program Top-10 times on the last day of the Art Adamson Invitational at Texas A&M's Rec Center Natatorium on Friday.

After earning a spot in the A-Finals of the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Alondra Ortiz swam into a sixth-place finish with a NCAA B-Cut time of 1:57.77. The time also moved her up from fourth to second on Houston's all-time top-10 list. Junior Adelaide Meuter also earned a B-Cut time, finishing in ninth in the B-Finals with a 1:57.94 to move up to fourth on the program's top-10 list.Â

Junior Henrietta Fangli picked up her second B-Cut time of the meet in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 12th with a 2:13.51 in the B-Finals.Â

Fifth-year Chase Farris continued her success this season, placing fourth out of 21 divers in the platform competition with a 238.80. Senior Hedda Grelz took sixth in the event while junior Josie Graves earned seventh place and freshman Michelle McLeod finished ninth. Junior Alexa Massari also earned points for Houston in the event with a 16th place finish.Â

Fifth-year Audrey McKinnon captured seventh in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:14.20 after qualifying for the A-Finals. In the B-Finals, sophomore Virag Peter finished 13th in the event while senior Sophie Anderson took 16th. Sophomore Jenna Kerkman took 24th in the C-Finals.Â

Sophomore Noor El Gendy took eighth in the 200 fly after qualifying for the A-Finals earlier in the day. Freshman Sydney Nethercutt finished 10th in the same event while senior Abby Jackson took 12th, freshman Nora Hetyei earned 21st and sophomore Landry Hadder captured 31st.Â

Houston's 400-yard freestyle relay of sophomore Liya Goupil, junior Mary Catherine Jurica, freshman Elizabeth Jimenez and El Gendy finished in 10th with a 3:23.26.Â

Hetyei finished 15th in the 200-yard backstroke with Jimenez finishing 20th, senior Danielle Titus placing 22nd and Hadder taking 32nd.

Goupil closed individual competition with a 21st place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.Â

Overall, Houston finished 4th in the Art Adamson Invitational with 376 points. RV Texas A&M finished first with #23 UCLA taking second and rv LSU placing third.Â

Following the team's winter break, the Cougars return to action with a home dual meet against rv Texas A&M on Jan. 11 at the CRWC Natatorium. Admission to the meet is free.
