Fangli Leads Swimming & Diving on Art Adamson Invitational Day Two

Fangli earns a first-place finish and joins Entrekin by recording a NCAA B-Cut time in the 100-breaststroke
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Junior Henrietta Fangli took first in 100-yard breaststroke to highlight the second day at the Art Adamson Invitational for the University of Houston Swimming & Diving team on Thursday inside Texas A&M's Rec Center Natatorium. Freshman Fangli and freshman Evelyn Entrekin also earned NCAA B-Cut times in the event.Â
Fangli swam a 1:09.75 to take first place overall during prelims that were conducted in long-course meters. Upon conversion to short-course yards, Fangli's time of 1:01.38 fell under the required threshold of 1:01.46 for an NCAA B-Cut. Fangli improved her time to 1:00.03 to take first place in the A-Finals, improving her season-best time in the event. Entrekin used a 12th-place finish to earn her NCAA B-Cut time, posting a 1:01.35 in the B-Finals. The mark also moved Entrekin into seventh on Houston's Top 10 list.

Sophomore Virag Peter finished 14th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:03.14 in the B-Finals while fifth-year Audrey McKinnon took 19th, senior Sophie Anderson placed 30th and sophomore Jenna Kerkman finished 31st.

Having finished in fifth in the 3-meter competition, fifth-year Chase Farris continued her success at the meet, joining with freshman Michelle McLeod to qualify for the finals segment of the 1-meter diving competition. Farris finished in seventh with a 281.35 while McLeod posted a 272.55 to take eighth.Â

Houston's 200 medley relay of freshman Elizabeth Jimenez, Fangli, junior Adelaide Meuter and sophomore Liya Goupil finished seventh with a time of 1:41.01 while senior Danielle Titus, Entrekin, sophomore Noor El Gendy and junior Mary Catherine Jurica posted a 1:42.88 to finish in 16th.Â

Meuter used a 54.49 to take eighth in the 100-yard fly after qualifying for the A-Finals. Senior Abby Jackson, who earned a spot in the B-Finals, finished in 16th with a 55.82. El Gendy and senior Anna Ervin finished in 18th and 24th, respectively, in the C-Finals and junior Abbie Alvarez finished at 25th overall. Alvarez's time of 54.49 improves her mark on Houston's Top 10 list. She remains in seventh on the ranking, bettering her previous best of 54.50.

Titus led Houston's contingent in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 14th with a 55.42 in the B-Finals of the event. In the C-Finals, Jimenez finished in 21st with a 55.53 while freshman Nora Hetyei took 31st in the D-Finals.Â

Sophomore Eden Humphrey placed 14th with a 1:50.46 in the 200-yard freestyle after qualifying for the B-Finals in the event. Goupil finished in 19th in the same event with a 1:50.56.Â

Sophomore Alondra Ortiz and Hetyei both qualified for the B-Finals in the 400-yard IM. Ortiz used a 4:18.57 in the heat to take 12th and Hetyei finished 13th with a 4:21.29. Anderson and sophomore Landry Hadder, who competed in the C-Finals, earned 21stand 23rd place, respectively.Â

The 800-yard Freestyle relay team of freshman Megan Unruh, Jackson, Jimenez and El Gendy capped the day for the Cougars, finishing in 13th with a 7:26.89.Â

Houston concludes its 2023 competition on Friday at the Art Adamson Invitational. Swimming preliminary heats begin at 9:30 a.m. The platform diving event begins at noon, followed by the 1650-yard freestyle at 2:43 p.m. and the swimming finals at 5:30 p.m.
