Goupil posts a Top 10 time in the 50-yard freestyle on opening day in College Station
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team had three student-athletes qualify for the top finals competition, with sophomore Liya Goupil putting in a top-10 time on the first day of the Art Adamson Invitational.Â
Â
With competition against a ranked team and multiple others receiving votes, Houston had a pair of swimmers advance to the A-Final and fifth-year diver Chase Farris earned a spot in the 3-meter diving championship on the opening day in College Station.
Â
Goupil finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best 23.12, putting her in ninth on Houston's Top-10 list.
Â
Sophomore Eden Humphrey posted a season-best 4:47.99 in the A-Final of the 500-yard Freestyle to take seventh, narrowly missing an NCAA B-Cut (4:47.20). Senior Abby Jackson tallied a 4:57.55 to take 24th in the event in the C-Final.
Â
Farris finished in fifth place with a 306.60 in the 3-meter final after qualifying with a 300.00 for sixth in the preliminaries.Â
Â
The Cougars had six qualify for the final heats in the 200-yard IM. Freshman Nora Hetyei finished with a 2:02.59 in the B-Final, earning a 14th place finish. Sophomore Alondra Ortiz and senior Sophie Anderson, who qualified for the C-Final, took 19th and 24th with times of 2:01.95 and 2:05.12, respectively. Freshman Elizabeth Jimenez (30th), fifth-year Audrey McKinnon (31st) and sophomore Jenna Kerkman (32nd) wrapped up individual competition in the D-Final of the 200 IM.
