
Cox, Meyer Lead Cougars at First Big 12 Conference Championship

Branch Cox leads the men for second week in a row, Meyer goes four-for-four
AMES, Iowa – The Houston Cross Country program competed at its first Big 12 Conference Championship Saturday morning where a new leader, senior Branch Cox, took the top time for the men and graduate Claire Meyer once again took the top time for the women's team at the Iowa State Cross Country Course.
Cox led the men's side to a 10th-place, 293-point finish, with his top time. Crossing the line 40th and at 24:13.5, the senior set a personal best by over 10 seconds in the 8k race, a time he set at the Arturo Barrios Invitational (Oct.13). Cox's finish also marks his second top finish for the Cougars this season, the first runner on the men's side to lead the team with multiple top finishes.
Next to finish for the Cougars, graduate Brandon Seagreaves finished 65th with a time of 24:53.6. Two Cougars crossed the line back-to-back with sophomore Miles Cox, 78th, and freshman Michael Archie, 79th, with times of 25:27.6 and 25:28.7, respectively. Rounding out Houston's scoring five, senior Brycen Pitre finished 83rd with a time of 25:36.6 and freshman Derek Waite finished 85th, crossing the line at 25:39.8.
Other times for the men were freshmen Aaron Crittenden finishing 94th with a time of 25:52.0 and Patrick Flowers coming in 99th with a time of 26:08.9.
For the women, Meyer grabbed the top time for Houston, running the 6k race in 21:17.70, for 45th overall. The next finisher for the Cougars was senior Kelly-Ann Beckford, finishing 92nd with a time of 22:36.10. Juniors Zosia Bulhak finished 99th overall at 22:42.9, and Eleni Kaiser crossed the line at 22:46.7 to grab the 101st finishing spot. Junior Erin Rivera rounded out the scoring five with her 115th overall finish with a time of 23:27.8. The women took 13th-place with 374 points.
Freshman Carly Ahrens also finished with a personal best of 24:57.6.
