Ortiz Continues to Succeed at Pan Am Games

Ortiz captures seventh place in the 400-meter Individual Medley
SANTIAGO, Chile – University of Houston Swimming & Diving's Alondra Ortiz earned her second qualification into an A Final at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, finishing seventh in the 400-meter individual medley on Tuesday.

Ortiz qualified for the A Final with a 4:59.46 in her qualification heat and then swam a 4:59.34 in the A Finals to take seventh in the event. It was her second appearance in an A Final after qualifying and taking sixth in the 200-meter butterfly on Saturday.Â

Ortiz is one of three Houston Swimming & Diving student-athletes at the Pan Am Games, joining Elizabeth Jimenez and Danielle Titus in Santiago. Jimenez and Titus completed their competition in the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes Monday.

Ortiz continues competition on Wednesday in the 200-meter individual medley. She swims in heat four of the 200 IM at approximately 7:38 a.m. CT. The finals in the event are slated to begin at 2:21 p.m. CT.
