Ortiz Shines at Pan Am Games

SANTIAGO, Chile – University of Houston Swimming & Diving's Alondra Ortiz took sixth place in the A Final in the 200-meter butterfly on Saturday at the Pan American Games.

Ortiz was Houston Swimming & Diving's first of three student-athletes to compete at the games in Santiago, Chile. After taking second in her heat with a 2:15.50, she qualified for the A Final, swimming a 2:15.58 to place sixth overall in the 200 butterfly.

Ortiz continues competition on Tuesday with the 400-meter individual medley and Oct. 25 with the 200-meter individual medley. The program's other two participants, Danielle Titus and Elizabeth Jimenez, begin competition on Sunday. Both Titus and Jimenez compete in the 200-meter backstroke on Sunday and the 100-meter backstroke on Monday.
