Georgiades Wins Defensive Award, Jackson on Honor Roll

HOUSTON – A 2-1 weekend for the University of Houston volleyball team at LSU's Tiger Classic led to junior libero Kate Georgiades earning American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, senior outside hitter Abbie Jackson earned The American Honor Roll accolades as well.

Georgiades tallied 20-plus digs in all three matches over the weekend and has now registered 20-plus digs in six straight matches dating back to last season.
The College Station, Texas native ranks fourth nationally in digs per set (6.10) and 21st nationally in total digs (61). The reigning conference Libero of the Year, and Preseason All-Conference selection also chipped in five aces over the weekend, three against LSU and a trio against Samford.

Offensively, Jackson paced the Cougars with 44 kills in the three matches this past weekend. The Gig Harbor, Wash. native led the conference in kills per set (4.40) and points per set (4.95) and helped Houston to the league's best attacking percentage in Week 1 (.247).
