Clarke Named to American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team

HOUSTON – Entering her fifth season and defending her position as a key player for the University of Houston Soccer program, senior Emma Clarke was named to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

Receiving the accolade for the first time in her career, Clarke was the lone representative on the All-Conference Team for the Cougars. In addition to Preseason All-Conference Honors, Clarke was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Players to Watch List for the 2022 season.

In 2021, the New Zealand, native was named to The American All-Conference Second Team following her performance on the backline, helping the Cougars earn nine shutouts and leading the team to a historic 13-5-2 season. In The American Conference Tournament, Clarke was the first Cougar in program history named to the All-Tournament Team.

Houston Soccer was selected to finish fifth overall in the American Athletic Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving one first-place vote.

Clarke and the Cougars open their season at 7 p.m., Thursday, when Houston travels to Norman, Okla., to face the Sooners. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available here.
