Houston Soccer Unveils 2022 Schedule

Cougars open Frias era with eight home games, strong schedule
HOUSTON – Houston Soccer and first-year Head Coach Jaime Frias announced its 2022 schedule on Wednesday with a slate that features eight home games at the Carl Lewis International Complex. Fans can also view the full schedule with times here.

 "The 2022 schedule will give us the opportunity to compete against teams with a rich history of success," Frias said. "The non-conference opponents will challenge us to play with consistency and focus, which will in turn help us prepare for American Athletic Conference play.  There is an excitement building around our squad and we look forward to showcasing our talents in front of our supporters this season."

As part of the full 18-game schedule, the Cougars will face four teams that advanced to the 2021 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
The Cougars are fresh off a stellar 2021 season which featured a 13-5-2 record, setting a new program record for wins with 13, the most since the 2010 season. Houston's success during the 2021 season also included a 9-1-1 mark at home, and a No. 2 seed at The American Conference Tournament.
After opening the slate with a home exhibition match against LSU (Aug. 14), the Cougars begin the season on the road against Big 12 Conference opponent Oklahoma (Aug. 18). Houston will continue its road swing at Lamar (Aug. 21), Louisiana Lafayette (Aug. 25) and Sam Houston (Aug. 28).

Houston returns to the Carl Lewis International Complex for its home opener against future Big 12 foe Baylor (Sept. 1), followed by cross-town rival Rice (Sept. 4) for Youth Day.

The Cougars will hit the road for its final two away non-conference games against Texas Tech (Sept. 8) and will return to the Houston area to face cross-town rival HBU (Sept. 11) at Sorrels Field.

Houston kicks off the final season of American Conference action at home against USF (Sept. 15) as part of Hispanic Heritage Night.

The Cougars will travel for two of their four scheduled away conference games to face ECU (Sept. 22) and Memphis (Sept. 29), the 2021 American Athletic Conference Champion.

The month of October brings a three-game home stand including Houston's final non-conference matchup against UTSA (Oct. 2) and two American Conference contests against SMU (Oct. 6) for Greek Night followed by a Sunday matinee matchup against Tulsa (Oct. 9).

The Cougars will then travel to Cincinnati (Oct. 20) and UCF (Oct. 23). To conclude the regular season, Houston will honor its senior class prior to facing Temple (Oct. 27).

ABOUT THE COUGARS
The Cougars return 24 student-athletes for the 2022 season, with 20 Cougars seeing action at some point during the 2021 season and 13 different individuals notching at least one goal.

Houston returns two of its All-Conference selections from last season, including defender Emma Clarke, who was a Second-Team All-Conference honoree, a key component on the back line with 19 starts. Midfielder Samantha Wiehe was named to the All-Rookie Team after proving herself with 13 appearances in the starting lineup.
