Hulsey steals school-record four bases, Todd wins all three games in sweep

HOUSTON – Right fielder Paige Hulsey tied a single-game school record with four stolen bases and right-hander Hannah Todd notched her third win of the series, the first for a pitcher in program history, as Houston Softball completed its sweep of Memphis with a 6-0 victory on Sunday at Cougar Softball Stadium.

Hulsey stole two bases in the third inning before swiping a bag in the fourth and sixth innings. The right fielder went 1-for-1 in the game and reached base all three plate appearances.

In the circle, Todd won her third-straight game, setting a program-best by winning all three games in the set. Todd went 5.0 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts and did not issue a walk, helping the Cougars (20-16-1, 4-1-1 American) down Memphis (13-23, 1-5 American) to run their home unbeaten streak to nine games.

Righty Saleen Flores tossed 2.0 scoreless relief innings, permitting just one hit.

For the third-straight game, center fielder Aspen Howie hit a home run. The redshirt senior's solo shot in the sixth inning made it 6-0 Houston.

Catcher Kati Ray Brown opened the scoring for the Cougars in the second inning with a two-run home run to left field, her eighth of the year.

A bases loaded walk to second baseman Becca Schulte in the third inning made it 3-0 Houston before an RBI-single by Howie put the Cougars up 4-0.

A fifth inning RBI-double by left fielder Amanda Carden made it 5-0.

The sweep marked the second of the season and the first in conference since the Cougars swept UConn in 2019.

UP NEXT
Houston will hit the road for three games at East Carolina beginning at 4 p.m. CT Friday. Saturday's middle game is set for 1 p.m. CT and Sunday's finale starts at 11 a.m. CT. The Cougars are seeking their fifth-straight series win over the Pirates.
