Assistant coach brings wealth of experience to Cullen Blvd.
HOUSTON – Houston Soccer expanded its staff on Thursday, as head coach Jaime Frias announced the hiring of Brett O'Connor as assistant coach.
"We are extremely excited for Brett to be joining our soccer family," Frias said. "Brett is someone that comes with a wide range of experience that will enhance our program as we make the transition to the Big 12 Conference.
"He has a great understanding of the game, relates well to the players he coaches and cares deeply about the development of the student-athletes under his care. I believe he is a perfect fit for our program and we feel fortunate to have him as a member of our staff."
O'Connor comes to Houston after spending nearly five years with the Colorado Rapids (2017-22) in various roles such as the WPSL goalkeeper coach, ENCL head coach and the director of coaching U11-U14 girls in addition to serving as the men's goalkeeping coach at University of Denver (Oct. 2020-July 2021).
In 2016, O'Connor became the men and women's goalkeeping coach and assistant coach at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He was the director of coaching for the U13 and U14 Boys and Girls and the director of coaching for U11-U18 Boys at Colorado United Soccer Club.
In 2009, O'Connor moved to Colorado and assisted with both the men's and women's programs at Colorado Christian University and served as goalkeeping coach.
In addition, he trained and evaluated goalkeepers for Colorado ODP.
In 2008, Brett became an assistant coach for the men's program at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. In his first year, the program was regionally ranked for three consecutive weeks.
Originally from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., O'Connor graduated from Northwest Nazarene University with a bachelor's degree in mass communications in 2003.
