Houston Drops Tough Match against UT Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program competed in Arlington, Texas, at the UTA Tennis Center on Saturday in its second road game of the weekend. The Cougars fell to the Mavericks, 4-3.
UT Arlington improved to 10-1 on the season with the win. The Cougars (6-6) now look to rebound at 1:30 p.m. Friday against Gonzaga from the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
The Cougars competed first in doubles play, followed by singles play. In the first doubles match, Maria Dzemeshkevich and Azul Pedemonti fell 6-3 to UTA's Momoka Horiguchi and Tara Gorinsek. Laura Slisane and Blanca Cortijo Parreno were defeated by Liz Chileno and Ana Paula Jimenez, 6-1.
Houston looked to turn things around in singles play, and managed to get points on the board. On Court 3, Pedemonti gave the Cougars their first points against UT Arlington's Carla Pons, 7-5, 6-1. Dzemeshkevich defeated Horiguchi 6-2, 6-3 on Court 1.
In a tough singles match, Slisane defeated Chileno in a tiebreaker 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. Unfortunately, it was not enough for the Cougars as the Mavericks claimed the match.

The Cougars will return to the Barbara Wallace Winton Tennis Facility to face Gonzaga at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a trip to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic at 9:30 a.m. CT on Sunday, March 13.
Houston will then return for a three-match homestand, beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m. against Binghamton, followed by a 2 p.m. matchup against McNeese.
Houston will wrap up action at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility for the season at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 19 against Tulane for Senior Day.
