Cougars continue action on Sunday against FAU
HOUSTON – Houston Tennis recorded its seventh win of the season with a 4-0 victory against Gonzaga on Friday afternoon at the Chancellors Family Center.
The Cougars' match was scheduled to take place at the Barbara Wallace Winston Facility, but due to inclement weather, it was moved indoors to the Chancellors Family Center.
Houston (7-6) started the day off in doubles play against Gonzaga (6-4), followed by a successful round of singles competition.
In doubles competition, Sophie Gerits and Elena Trencheva teamed up to defeat Gonzaga's Jenna Sloan and Frederikke Svarre, 6-2. On court Two, Laura Slisane and Maria Dzemeshkevich outscored Gonzaga's Kianna Oda and Teigan Aitken, 6-3.
Following the doubles point, Houston moved onto singles competition, sweeping the Zags 3-0.
On court 3, Azul Pedemonti defeated Jenna Sloan, 6-0, 6-4. On court 2, Slisane gave Houston a 3-0 lead after defeating Adrianna Sosnowska.
Gerits sealed the victory for the Cougars on court 4, defeating Oda with both sets ending 6-4.
The match marked the first meeting between Houston and Gonzaga. The Cougars will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to Boca Raton, Florida, to face Florida Atlantic at 9:30 a.m. (CT) Sunday from the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
