Houston returns to Oklahoma for 2nd weekend in a row
HOUSTON − The University of Houston softball team returns to Oklahoma to open American Conference play at Tulsa with a three-game series beginning Friday.

- Amanda Carden hit a two-RBI single in the seventh inning to walk-off Sam Houston on Tuesday.
- Carden leads the team in average (.341).
- Houston has won six-straight home games for the first time since 2020 (2/16/20-2/23/20).
- Head Coach Kristin Vesely needs two wins in Cougar Softball Stadium to eclipse the 100-win mark at home.
- Freshman Hannah Blincoe earned her first collegiate start in the circle against Sam Houston. The righty spun 5.2 innings with two strikeouts.
- Freshman Baylea Myers got her first collegiate start against Sam Houston committing zero errors on three ground balls.
- Houston downed #7 Washington in walk-off fashion on Friday of the Boyd Gaming Classic, 5-4. It marked the second-straight year the Cougars had topped the #7 team in the country (last against #7 Oklahoma State in 2021).
- Becca Schulte hit a home run in the final game of 2020, did not play in 2021, and hit a home run in her first at-bat of 2022. Thus, Schulte hit a home run in back-to-back games spanning 23 months.
- Freshman Ja'Naiya Thomas was named to D1Softball's preseason Top 75 Impact Freshman list.
- Thomas was named D1Softball's Preseason Freshman of the Year for The American.
- Houston will finish the regular season on national television May 1 at South Florida on ESPNU.
- Graduate student Becca Schulte is competing in her seventh season as a collegiate athlete. Schulte graduated high school in 2015. She is one of two known 7th-year softball players in the DI ranks.
- Houston will face four Preseason Top 25 teams in 2022, including three teams in the Top 10 of D1Softball's preseason poll.
- The Cougars play 10 teams that made a regional in 2021. Houston's schedule penned seven Power 5 opponents into the 2022 schedule, facing those seven teams a total of 11 total times.
