
Men’s Golf Ready to Host All-American Intercollegiate

Two-day, 54-hole event free and open to public at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas
HOUSTON – For the first time in more than two years, the University of Houston Men's Golf continues its spring season when it plays host to the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston.
Houston will face a 17-team field against student-athletes from Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas State, ULM and UTSA.
Teams will play 36 holes Monday with an 8 a.m., split-tee start off No. 1 and No. 10 with the final 18 holes to begin at 8 a.m., Tuesday in a split-tee start.
The event is free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
Houston enters the All-American Intercollegiate after finishing fifth at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club on March 21-22 in Lafayette, La. Junior Marcus Wochner and senior Alexander Frances each finished under par with Wochner tying for 13th at 5-under 211 to lead the Cougars.
WELCOME BACK
The Cougars were set and ready to host the All-American Intercollegiate in 2021, but severe winter weather forced the cancellation of the event.
In the 2020 All-American Intercollegiate, Sam Houston State swept the team and individual titles. The Bearkats won the team title by four strokes over Wake Forest and were led by Jack Randle, who posted a score of 11-under 205.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, the Cougars will be represented by senior Alexander Frances, junior Marcus Wochner, senior Braxton Watkins, senior Andrew Gibson and redshirt freshman Jacob Borow.
Junior Austyn Reily, freshman Julio Rios Brache, redshirt freshman Drew Murdock, senior Laurence Crea and sophomore Laurence Crea will compete as individuals.
An All-American Athletic Conference performer a year ago, Frances has been a consistent leader for the Cougars this season. The Stege, Denmark, leads the Cougars with a 71.48 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better, including seven in the 60s.
Frances has shot par or better in eight of his last nine rounds and enjoyed three Top-10 finishes, including the first title of his collegiate career at the Border Olympics, where he bested teammate Andrew Gibson on the second hole of a playoff on Feb. 15.
With his recent play at the Louisiana Classics, Wochner moved into third on the team with a 72.94 average and eight rounds of par or better. The Holte, Denmark, native has enjoyed a pair of Top-15 finishes this season and posted a career-low 65 in the Final Round of the Cabo Collegiate on March 1 for the Cougars' low round of the year.
Senior Braxton Watkins stands second on the team with a 72.65 average and nine rounds of par or better. The Winthrop, Ark., native has shot par or better in four of his last six rounds and tied for sixth at the Border Olympics.
PAIRINGS
For Monday's action, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Florida State.
Watkins and Gibson will start the day in the first group off No. 1 with Wochner and Frances (second group off No. 1) and Borow (No. 2) following.
Chang and Crea (No. 17), Murdock (first group off No. 18) and Rios-Brache and Reily (second group off No. 18) will play as individuals.

Following the All-American Intercollegiate, the team will host the prestigious Valspar Collegiate Invitational at The Floridian Golf Club on March 28-29. That tournament annually features the nation's top collegiate programs.
From there, the Cougars will tee off at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas, on April 9-10.
