Houston in Second Going into Third Day of AAC Championships

Cougars grabbed four podium finishes on second day of Championships
DALLAS – The University of Houston swimming and diving team made its way to the podium on the second day of the American Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday at the Barr-McMillion Natatorium on SMU's Campus.

SMU currently leads on the second day of competition with 364 points, followed by the Cougars with 353.5 points.

For the second day in a row, Houston's diving team earned podium finishes. In the 1-meter diving final, Emilia Waters earned second place with 289.65 points and Chase Farris earned third place with 287.50 points. In the B-final, Josie Graves placed second with a 241.30 score earning seven points for the Cougars.

The Cougars took second place in the 200-yard freestyle team relay powered by Kathryn Power, Mary Catherine Jurica, Rachel Hicks and Emma Wright with a time of 1:31.45.
In the 50-yard freestyle final, Power placed Houston on the podium for the second consecutive year at 22.93 winning bronze. Hicks picked up 11 points for Houston in the event with a time of 23.46. Wright (1st; 23:11) took first in the consolation final with a time of 23:11 while Adelaide Meuter finished with a time of 23.44.

The Cougars earned 14 points in the 500-yard freestyle final with Jurica placing fifth with a time of 4:50.32.

In the 200-yard IM consolation final, the Cougars rounded out the top-three with Sophie Anderson in first with a time of 2:04.14, followed by Abbie Alvarez in second at 2:04.26 and Audrey McKinnon in third at 2:05.16. Henrietta Fangli also added three points with a sixth finish with a time of 2:06.53.

Action resumes Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals at 6 p.m. (CT) on ESPN+.
