Houston Back in Front After Third Day of AAC Championships

400-yard team medley secures fifth straight title
DALLAS – The University of Houston swimming and diving team won three events on the third day of the American Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at the Barr-McMillion Natatorium on SMU's Campus.
Freshmen Adelaide Meuter and Henrietta Fangli each closed out the day with individual titles. Houston expanded its lead, closing out the day with 583.5 points and sits 6.5 points ahead of second-place SMU (577 points) heading into Saturday's final day of competition.
Tulane rounds out the top three (420), followed by Cincinnati (382) in fourth and ECU (177.5) in fifth.
The Cougars' 400-yard medley relay team, powered by Kathryn Power, Fangli, Meuter, and Mary Catherine Jurica, claimed Houston's fifth consecutive title in the event with a time of 3:37.91. It was also Houston's second title in team relays this week.
Meuter claimed Houston's second straight 100-yard butterfly championship with a time of 53.50. Sophomore Abby Jackson also placed on the podium in third place with a time of 54.02. Anna Ervin (6th; 54.77) and Keely Rollinson (8th; 54.90) earned the Cougars an additional 24 points to their total. Abbie Alvarez took second place in the consolation final with a time of 54.97, picking up seven points for the Cougars.
The Cougars' second individual title of the night came in the 100-yard breaststroke with Fangli earning first place with a time of 1:00.02. Audrey McKinnon helped Houston earn an additional 13 points, coming in sixth place with a final time of 1:03.06.
Houston's success at the podium continued in the 200-yard freestyle with Jurica placing second with a time of 1:48.02. Emma Wright helped the Cougars earn an additional 11 points, coming in eight place with a time of 50.51. Elizabeth Richardson (2nd, 1:48.93) took second in the consolation final, while Rachel Hicks (4th; 1:50.32) and Alyssa Bloser (7th; 1:52.39) earned Houston seven points.
In the 100-yard backstroke final, Power placed Houston on the podium at 22.93, winning bronze. Julia Koluch picked up 15 points for Houston in the event with a time of 55.23 and Keely Rollinson added 12 points at 56.14
Sophie Anderson earned the Cougars four points in the 400-yard IM consolation final with a time of 4:25.36.
Action concludes Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. (CT) and finals at 5 p.m. (CT) on ESPN+.
