Volleyball Moves Up to No. 23 in AVCA Poll

HOUSTON – With a pair of wins last weekend in the Fertitta Center, the University of Houston volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll after entering the rankings at No. 24 last week.

The Cougars (19-2, 10-0 The American) remain in first place in the American Athletic Conference with a perfect record at the midway point of the league slate.

With 10 matches remaining in the regular season, Houston still has big matchups remaining, including a battle at home against SMU on Nov. 20 and will close out the regular season with a trip to Orlando for a rematch against No. 25 UCF.

The Cougars have already posted resume building wins against three teams that made the NCAA tournament in 2021 and have a 4-2 record against teams in the Top 50 of the NCAA's RPI.

Last week, Houston outlasted Wichita State in a five-set win on Friday, followed by a three-set sweep of Tulsa on Sunday. The Cougars are currently on a 11-game winning streak, their longest since an 11-game streak in 2000. The string of consecutive victories is also the sixth-longest active streak in NCAA Division I.

UP NEXT
The Cougars continue a five-match homestand with another pair of matches at home. Starting on Friday, Houston hosts Temple at 7 p.m. in the Fertitta Center followed by a Sunday match against East Carolina at noon.
