
Houston Sets Eyes on American Conference Championship

Cougars enter championship as No. 5 seed
HOUSTON – After a strong finish to the regular season, the University of Houston Softball team is set to for the American Athletic Conference Championship beginning Thursday.
As the No. 5 seed in the tournament, Houston will face off with No. 4 seeded Tulsa in the opening round. The Cougars split their season series with the Golden Hurricane, which took place last weekend.
The matchup between Houston and Tulsa in The American Conference Championship is as rich as any other, with this will be the fourth time the Cougars have squared up against the Golden Hurricane in the Conference Championship. In fact, 2021 will mark the third consecutive AAC Championship the two teams have seen each other in the postseason tournament and fourth in the last five.

- Houston's offense has come alive as of late, finishing the regular season batting .305 in its final 13 games, which has included four double-digit hit performances and other eight games of scoring five or more runs.
- Leading the charge for the Cougars during that 13-game stretch has been redshirt senior Sarah Queen, along with senior Rock Benavides and junior Bethany Busch. While Busch has paved the way in batting average (.432), Queen has set the standard in home runs (4) and slugging (.700), as Benavides has been on base half the time (.500).
- Over that same 13-game stretch, sophomore Megan Lee has spearheaded the pitching staff, leading the Cougars in ERA (2.96) and opponent's batting average (.211) in her seven appearances.
