Cougars conclude season in AAC quarterfinal
TULSA, Okla. – The University of Houston Softball team dropped its opening round matchup against Tulsa in the American Athletic Conference Championship by a score of 8-2 on Thursday.
Houston's offense launched a pair of home runs on the evening with senior Aspen Howie and junior Bethany Busch each recording a solo shot. Howie's home run marked her sixth of the season, while Busch connected on her fourth of the year.
In the circle, sophomore Logan Hulon pitched 3.2 innings, and struck out three batters. Junior Rachel Hertenberger tossed a pair of innings in relief and surrendered just one hit while punching out two hitters.
KEY INNINGS
1st | Tulsa grabbed the first lead of the game, as the Golden Hurricane plated a run, but Hulon fought back to retire the side and limit the damage.
2nd | After Howie put a charge in one and tied the score with a solo home run to left, the Golden Hurricane responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 2-1.
5th | A three-hit, five-run bottom of the inning, which was capitalized by a three-run home run, extended the Tulsa lead to 7-1.
6th | Busch led things off by going opposite field and connecting with a solo shot to trim the deficit, but a home run from Tulsa in the bottom half cemented the Golden Hurricane's six-run win.

The Cougars conclude their 2021 season with a 17-33 record and 8-16 mark in conference action. Houston will return five starters from its lineup for the 2022 season, including all four of its pitchers.
