Cougars outlasted in pitcher’s duel
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team dropped its series finale with USF by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon inside Cougar Softball Stadium.
In their four-game series with the Bulls (17-7, 7-1 AAC), the Cougars (10-21, 1-7 AAC) saw three games decided by one run, with two being 1-0 decisions.
Sunday saw sophomore Logan Hulon and junior Rachel Hertenberger toss seven innings without allowing an earned run. Together, they struck out three batters and surrendered six hits.
Houston made outstanding plays in the field, as sophomore Paige Hulsey made two inning-ending grabs with runners on, while senior Rock Benavides also made a diving play of her own to end an inning.
Offensively, redshirt senior Lindsey Stewart-Vaugh and senior Tierrah Williams collected Houston's lone hits of the day. They each finished the game with one hit.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | USF plated a run in the top of the inning to take the first lead of the game.
3rd | Hulsey made an impressive catch over the wall in foul territory and then threw out the runner trying to score at home to save a run.
