Williams’ Home Run Leads to Houston Win

Senior hits two-run blast in victory
HOUSTON – A two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning from senior Tierrah Williams lifted the University of Houston Softball team to a 4-3 victory on Friday afternoon inside Cougar Softball Stadium.
With the win, the Cougars (10-20, 1-6 AAC) snap an eight-game skid and earn their first American Athletic Conference victory of the season. In total, Houston's one-through-six hitters went a combined 6-for-15 (.400) on the day.
Williams guided the offense, collecting a game-high two hits. Her and sophomore Britaney Shaw, who also launched a two-run home run, drove in all of Houston's runs against the Bulls (16-7, 6-1 AAC).
In the circle, junior Rachel Hertenberger tossed another gem and threw her eighth complete game of the season, having surrendered five hits while striking out four batters. She has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in five of her past six starts.
KEY INNINGS
1st | After redshirt senior Sarah Queen reached on a single up the middle, Shaw then stepped up to the plate with two outs and sneaked a two-run homer inside the leftfield foul pole to put Houston ahead 2-1.
4th | The Bulls sent a run across the plate to tie the score at two.
6th | Once junior Bethany Busch led the inning off with a single, Williams connected on an opposite field, two-run shot to put Houston back in front 4-2, proving to be the difference in the game.
