Jazmin Grant and Mia Brascia named All-Conference while Genaye Sanders earns All-Rookie spot
HOUSTON – Three members of the Houston soccer team earned recognition from the American Athletic Conference as Jazmin Grant and Mia Brascia were named to the All-Conference Teams while Genaye Sanders earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team, the conference announced today. Â
Grant was named to the First-Team All-Conference while Brascia was honored with Second-Team All-Conference. Sanders earned her spot on the All-Rookie team. Â
Grant led the team with 15 points off six goals and three assists while Brascia wasn't far behind with 11 points on three goals and five assists. The pair of upperclassmen have scattered their names across program record books with each finding themselves Top-Ten in several categories. Grant is set to finish her career as one of the best goal-scorers in program history while Brascia will be remembered for always putting her teammates in a position to score. For a full look at the record book check here. Â
Meanwhile, Sanders was steady on the backline with nine starts in 11 total appearances. The Frisco, Texas, native finished her high school career excelling both on the field in the playoffs and off the field as Student Council President. Â
These are the first season awards for Brascia and Sanders from the conference while Grant already owns several. Grant has three previous AAC awards on her resume: 2019 All-Conference Second Team, 2017 All-Conference Second Team, and 2017 All-Rookie Team. Â
Grant was also the only of the trio to earn any weekly conference awards as she earned a pair in the end of March.Â
The three honors came one season after the Cougars earned only two in each of the past two seasons. Last season Desiree Bowen was named to the First Team while Grant earned her spot on the Second Team. The program also earned two honors in 2018 as Bowen achieved another First Team spot while Reid Morrison was named to the All-Rookie Team. Â
Houston's season ends with a 6-4-1 record, the program's first winning record since 2010. The historic season finale came on Sunday April 11 as Houston topped UCF for the first time in program history after 15 previous attempts. The surging Cougars finished fifth in the AAC to narrowly miss the conference tournament. Â
