Houston opens four-game road trip at UIW
SAN ANTONIO – Houston Baseball opens a four-game road trip Wednesday when the Cougars face Incarnate Word at 6:30 p.m. from Sullivan Field. The matchup marks the sixth game against a Southland Conference opponent this season.

Houston (7-4) is looking to bounce back after dropping its weekend series against No. 19 Texas. The Cougars limited the Longhorns to a .212 opponent average and committed just one error but offensively, Houston plated just five runs and batted .163.

Incarnate Word (3-1) is competing in just its fifth game of the season. The Cardinals swept Texas Southern on Opening Weekend (Feb. 26-28) before falling 6-4 to Texas A&M last Wednesday. UIW is coached by former Houston staff member Ryan Shotzberger.Â

Houston catcher Kyle Lovelace has caught seven runners stealing in 10 attempts. Lovelace leads the AAC in caught stealing by, owning four more than the next-closest competitor. The junior threw out four runners in the Texas series including a pair in Saturday's 3-2 victory.

Houston pitching has been stellar, leading the AAC in ERA (2.79) and ranking second in WHIP (1.18). The Cougars have allowed three-or-fewer earned runs in eight of 11 contests. Houston has held opponents to a .223 average (31-for-139) with runners and .219 (25-for-114) with two outs.

Fifth-year senior Tyler Bielamowicz has been on a tear to start the season. The Cypress, Texas, native, who struck the game-winning, walk-off home run Saturday vs. No. 19 Texas, ranks fifth in The American in batting average (.432) and slugging percentage (.811).
