Cougars set to face Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana
HOUSTON – On the road for the first time since January, the Houston tennis team is set for a pair of matches in New Orleans on Friday and Saturday.
The Cougars will first face Tulane in an American Athletic Conference battle before staying in the city to take on Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
Throughout their ten matchups dating back to 2000, Houston has four victories over the Green Wave with the last one coming on March 17, 2015. Meanwhile, the program owns three victories over the Lions and have never lost to them.
ROAD TRIP
Since defeating Texas State on January 31 in San Marcos, Texas, the Cougars have only competed in the friendly confines of the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. During that stretch, the team has gone 4-2 with victories over North Texas, Louisiana, Wichita State, and Cincinnati.
Earlier in the season the program traveled across the state to play Texas State, UTSA, Incarnate Word, and Texas A&M. Plus they started the season competing in the TCU Tournament on their home campus.
SINGLES SUCCESS
Over the past few weeks the Cougars have several individuals on a roll in singles action. That group is led by a pair of underclassmen: Azul Pedemonti and Blanca Cortijo Parreno. After a 6-0, 6-3 victory on Tuesday over Cincinnati, Pedemonti now has six victories, and one unfinished match, since January 18.
Her doubles partner, Parreno, has also found success competing mainly on court six. The freshman from Spain is 3-0 in conference action with a trio of straight set victories. Her overall streak of straight set wins dates back to January 18 with six during that time.
UP NEXT
Houston continues its stretch of road matches with a match at Baylor on March 26 before traveling take on UTRGV in a doubleheader on March 28.
