
Houston Competes in Cabo Collegiate

Cougars in 13th after First Round at TPC San Antonio on Monday
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Battling cold temperatures and windy conditions, the University of Houston Men's Golf program stood in 13th following the First Round of the Cabo Collegiate at TPC San Antonio on Monday afternoon.
Competing on the 7,034-yard, par-72 Oaks Course, the Cougars finished the first day with a score of 312.
No. 7 Oklahoma held the first-day lead at 287 to stand 10 strokes ahead of No. 15 Texas A&M. No. 10 Texas (298), No. 4 Florida State (298), No. 8 Oklahoma State (299), No. 27 Baylor (300), No. 3 Arizona State (301), No. 31 Arkansas (301), California (302) and No. 1 Arizona (305) rounded out the Top-10 team leaders.
Sophomore Austyn Reily and junior Braxton Watkins each posted 77s to lead the Cougars and tie for 39th after the First Round. Seniors Alexander Frances, Matt Cole and Andrew Gibson tied for 57th at 79.
Making his collegiate debut, freshman Hanseung Chang tied for 67th at 80.
Oklahoma's Patrick Welch shot a 69 Monday to stand atop the individual leaderboard. John Pak (Florida State), Johnny Keefer (Baylor) and Pierceson Coody (Texas) were tied for second at 71.
The tournament continues with the Second Round on Tuesday morning with the Final Round teeing off Wednesday.

PAIRINGS
For Tuesday's Second Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Abilene Christian, Rice and Stanford.
Gibson will start the day at 8 a.m., Tuesday, off No. 10 with Cole (8:10 a.m.), Frances (8:20 a.m.), Watkins (8:30 a.m.) and Reily (8:40 a.m.) following. Chang begins off No. 10 at 9:50 a.m.

Following the Cabo Collegiate, the Cougars will send individuals to compete at the HBU Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 8-9 at Augusta Pines Golf Club in Spring.
Fans should note that the HBU Colin Montgomerie Invitational was a recent addition to the Cougars' schedule.
From there, Houston will play host to one of the nation's premier collegiate tournaments in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. This elite event will be held March 15-16 at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
