SAN ANTONIO, Texas – University of Houston junior Braxton Watkins posted a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's Second Round to move into a tie for 13th with a two-day score of 147 at the Cabo Collegiate.
Starting his day off No. 10 on the 7,034-yard, par-72 Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, Watkins overcame a bogey on No. 12 with a birdie on the par-5 14th hole.
After making bogey on No. 18, the Texarkana, Ark., native regained that stroke with a birdie on the 555-yard, par-5 second hole.
Watkins made his final bogey of the day on No. 3 and rallied with birdies on three of the next four holes, including back-to-back efforts on Nos. 4-5.
He joined Chad Sewell (UTSA), Dan Erickson (Texas A&M), Walker Lee (Texas A&M), Jonathan Brightwell (Oklahoma) and Johnny Keefer (Baylor) in a group at 147.
As a team, the Cougars bettered their First-Round score by 18 shots and moved into 11th at 606.
No. 7 Oklahoma held the second-day lead at 582 to finish three strokes ahead of No. 4 Florida State. No. 15 Texas A&M (586), No. 3 Arizona State (592), UTSA (595), No. 10 Texas (596), No. 27 Baylor (598), No. 31 Arkansas (598), No. 8 Oklahoma State (598) and No. 21 Texas Tech (601) rounded out the Top 10.
Individually, No. 17 Vincent Norman (Florida State) held the lead at 3-under 141. Garett Reband (Oklahoma), No. 82 Sam Bennett (Texas A&M) and Pierceson Coody (Texas) were tied for second at even-par 144.
Sophomore Austyn Reily was tied for 36th at 152, while senior Andrew Gibson was tied for 44th at 153. Senior Matt Cole was tied for 50th at 154 with senior Alexander Frances tied for 61st at 156. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Hanseung Chang was tied for 55th at 155.
The tournament wraps up with the Final Round on Wednesday morning.

PAIRINGS
For Wednesday's Final Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Arkansas, Texas Tech and Arizona.
Frances will start the day at 9 a.m., Wednesday, off No. 10 with Cole (9:10 a.m.), Gibson (9:20 a.m.), Reily (9:30 a.m.) and Watkins (9:40 a.m.) following. Chang begins off No. 10 at 9:50 a.m.

Following the Cabo Collegiate, the Cougars will send individuals to compete at the HBU Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 8-9 at Augusta Pines Golf Club in Spring.
Fans should note that the HBU Colin Montgomerie Invitational was a recent addition to the Cougars' schedule.
From there, Houston will play host to one of the nation's premier collegiate tournaments in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational. This elite event will be held March 15-16 at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
