Cougars set to square-off against Bulls in game with postseason implications
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball (14-5, 11-4 American) team returns to the Fertitta Center for a conference clash against the 13th-ranked Bulls of USF (14-1, 11-0 American).
Both teams enter the game hot as ever, as Houston seeks it seventh straight win and USF seeks its 14th. Houston sits at third in The American standings with its most conference victories since joining The American and looks to split the regular-season series with the Bulls in a game that has postseason implications.
THE 4-1-1
Houston will face the 13th-ranked Bulls of USF on Saturday at the Fertitta Center in a pivotal conference clash. Two Cougars are averaging over 10 points per game as Britney Onyeje leads UH with 10.6 points per game, followed by Miya Crump with 10.5 point per game. Tatyana Hill leads UH on the glass, pulling down 5.9 rebounds per game. Dymond Gladney is the assists leader for the Cougars with 57 this season.
Houston is averaging 69.2 points per game on 39.9 percent shooting from the field and a 29.7 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 62.4 points on defense while letting opponents shoot 38.0 percent and 23.2 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars enter the game with 202 steals this season and 75 blocks, forcing 20.60 turnovers per game.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
USF is in its 21st season under Head Coach Jose Fernandez. The Bulls are 14-1 this season and 11-0 in conference play. The Bulls have won their last 13 games and four straight after month-long lay-off due to COVID-19.
Three Bulls are averaging double-digit scoring as Elena Tsineke, Bethy Mununga and Sydni Harvey lead the teams with 11.8 points per game. Mununga is averaging a double-double with 12.9 rebounds per game as Elisa Pinzan leads USF in assists with 105 this season. The Bulls average 70.5 points per game on 38.7 percent shooting from the field, including a 30.2 percent mark from the three-point line.

Saturday's meeting is the 24th meeting between the two teams. Houston trails the series 7-17.

Three times this season UH has forced 30 turnovers by an opponent. This season UH has earned 202 steals and is averaging 10.6 steals per game. Houston is 19th in the NCAA in steals per game and second in the league. When it comes to forcing turnovers, Houston is one of the best, second in the league with 20.63 forced turnovers per game the Cougars are 14th in the NCAA in the category.
