Frederick Named Conference Defensive Player of the Week

HOUSTON – After helping lead the University of Houston Volleyball team to an undefeated week, junior libero Torie Frederick was named The American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

On the week, Frederick anchored Houston's back row, leading the Cougars to a 2-0 record, having averaged 5.29 digs per set. In her seven sets played, the Manvel, Texas, native totaled 37 digs, which included a career-high 27 in the first contest against Stephen F. Austin. She then followed that performance with another 10 digs against the Ladyjacks, her fourth double-digit dig performance of the season.

As a result of Frederick leading the defensive effort, Houston held SFA to a hitting percentage of just .123.

The award marks the first of Frederick's career and is the first weekly honor of the season for the Cougars, who also saw sophomore outside hitter Abbie Jackson land a spot on this week's Honor Roll. Jackson averaged 4.00 kills per set to go along with her 3.29 digs per frame.

Up next, the Cougars close out their four-match homestand on Thursday when Houston hosts Prairie View A&M inside the Athletics/Alumni Center. First serve for that contest is slated for 6:30 p.m.
