Houston ties for most season wins in program history
HOUSTON – Houston Soccer (12-4-2, 4-2-1 AAC) concluded its regular season home schedule with a 2-1 victory over Cincinnati (6-7-3, 1-4-2 AAC) on Sunday at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
The Cougars clinched an American Athletic Conference berth for the first time since 2019. Houston also tied for its most season wins in program history with 12 which has not occurred since 2010 when Houston went 12-5-4. With one regular season match still to play, as well as a conference tournament run, the Cougars have the chance to set a new win record for the program.
Houston fought hard against two physical teams this week, but came out on top in both matches. Following a victory against nationally-ranked Memphis on Thursday, the Cougars entered Sunday's match ready to continue the momentum and secure a win.
Redshirt freshman Maddie Bowers played an incredible game for the Cougars scoring her first collegiate goal late in the 38th minute with an assist by sophomore Madison Gear. The assist was Gear's second of the season.
Following the halftime period, Houston entered the second half up 1-0 before Cincinnati tied the game in the 69th minute. Once again, Bowers was an integral part in securing an assist to senior Natalie Anderson who put it in the net to win the match for the Cougars. The 78th minute score was Anderson's first of the season.
Houston has continuously set and broken program records this season and look to continue doing so in the upcoming matches. Houston Soccer currently ranks third in The American conference rankings behind South Florida and SMU.

The monumental season for the Cougars will continue on Thursday with the final match of the regular season schedule being played at Tulsa. Details on the conference tournament will be announced following the match.
