Kate Georgiades, American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 27, 2021)

HOUSTON – For the third time this season, University of Houston sophomore libero Kate Georgiades was honored as the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Junior outside hitter Abbie Jackson joined Georgiades in collecting accolades this week, being named to the league's Honor Roll for the second time in 2021.

Georgiades and Jackson led the Cougars to a 2-0 weekend in Florida, topping conference leader, and previously undefeated in AAC play, UCF in five sets on Oct. 8.

Houston now stands with an 15-3 overall record this season and has won five-straight matches.

ABOUT KATE GEORGIADES
In two matches last week, Georgiades averaged 5.22 digs per set and added an ace on the weekend.

Georgiades racked in 47 digs and helped hold South Florida to a .030 attacking percentage, a season-best mark for the Cougars defense.

The libero has led the Coogs in digs for the 18th-straight match and ranks 15th in the nation in digs per set (5.27), which leads the American Athletic Conference.

ABOUT ABBIE JACKSON
Jackson earned her second weekly honor of the season after leading the Cougars offensively with 5.06 points per set.

The Gig Harbor, Wash., native averaged a team-best 4.00 kills per set to lead Houston. Jackson posted 20 kills with 11 digs against UCF and posted four aces in the upset win in Orlando.

Jackson followed that performance with a match-high 16 kills with a career-high 18 digs and five total blocks in Sunday's win over South Florida.

She has now posted double-digit kills in every match this season.

Jackson ranks second in The American with 3.82 kills per set, second with 0.39 service aces per set and stands second in the league with 4.55 points per set.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will return home for the program's Fight For Molly match on Oct. 15 against SMU. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CST from the Fertitta Center. UH will then play host to Memphis on the 17th at 1 p.m. CST.
