Houston Comeback Falls Short Against Tulane

HOUSTON – The Houston Women's Basketball team (5-3, 2-2 American) fell short to Tulane (6-3, 2-2 American) in a 76-62 decision on Wednesday afternoon at the Fertitta Center.
Houston had 11 players score led by Bria Patterson who matched her career-high with 17 points and six rebounds. Dymond Gladney led the Cougars in assists with five, also grabbing six rebounds.
The Cougars held Tulane to 26.7 percent shooting from three-point range. Houston's reserves outscored Tulane's bench 25-10. This marks the Cougars first loss at home this season.
Tulane was had four players in double figures, led by Krystal Freeman with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Britney Onyeje led the way for Houston in the first quarter going 2-of-3 from the three-point line. Jazmaine Lewis cleaned the boards for the Cougars with three big defensive boards, as Houston outscored the Green Wave 5-0 in second chance points.
The Cougars opened up the second quarter with three early lay-ups from Daphane White. White led the Cougars defensive efforts as well, chasing down a Tulane player in transition earning a block.
Houston was able to stay in the game with Patterson's offensive efforts scoring seven of her 17 points in the third quarter.
Houston picked things up in the fourth quarter with Miya Crump leading the charge on both ends of the court. Crump scored eight of her nine points in the fourth quarter, knocking down a pair of threes to help the Cougars get within 10 points with 4:15 remaining in the quarter. Defensively, Crump picked up three steals and two blocks that shifted the momentum in favor of the Cougars. It would not be enough as the Cougars dropped their first game to Tulane in the last five meetings between the two teams.

Houston will return to action on Jan. 9 when the team travels to 18/19 USF for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Yuengling Center. The game will be aired on ESPN+.
