Houston Heads to Tampa to Face 18/19 USF

HOUSTON – The Houston Women's Basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 9 against 18/19 USF at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.
Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+
THE 4-1-1
Houston heads back to the Sunshine State for an American Athletic Conference matchup with 18/19 USF. The Cougars are led in scoring by Britney Onyeje who averages 12.7 points per game. Bria Patterson leads UH on the glass, pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game. Julia Blackshell-Fair is the assists leader for the Cougars with 35 this season.
Houston is averaging 69.6 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting from the field and a 31.9 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 69.0 points on defense while letting opponents shoot 40.5 percent and 21.8 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars enter the game with 81 steals this season and 37 blocks, forcing 20.75 turnovers per game.

USF is in its 21st season under Head Coach Jose Fernandez. The Bulls are 8-1 this season and 5-0 in conference play. The team is on a seven-game winning streak, most recently defeating Wichita State in a 66-48 decision.
USF is led in scoring by Elena Tsineke who averages 12.0 points per game. Bethy Mununga averages 11.7 rebounds per game to lead the team in the category. Elisa Pinzan is the assist leader for USF with 58 assists this season. Houston forced 30 Memphis turnovers, its most since Feb. 18, 2020 when the team forced 23 against Cincinnati. This season UH has earned 74 steals and is averaging 10.1 steals per game. Houston is 57th in the NCAA in steals per game and second in the league.
