Houston Set for Mid-Week Meeting with Tulsa

Cougars look to bounce back after tough week
HOUSTON – The Houston Women's Basketball team returns home for a mid-week meeting with Tulsa at the Fertitta Center. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
THE 4-1-1
Houston returns to the Fertitta Center for an American Athletic Conference matchup with Tulsa. The Cougars are led in scoring by Britney Onyeje who averages 11.0 points per game. Bria Patterson leads UH on the glass, pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game. Julia Blackshell-Fair is the assists leader for the Cougars with 35 this season.
Houston is averaging 67.6 points per game on 38.7 percent shooting from the field and a 30.8 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 70.2 points on defense while letting opponents shoot 41.3 percent and 24.7 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars enter the game with 95 steals this season and 40 blocks, forcing 20.78 turnovers per game.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
Tulsa is in its 10th season under Head Coach Matilda Mossman. The Golden Hurricane is 3-3 this season and 2-3 in conference play. The team is on a two-game winning streak, most recently defeating Memphis in a 72-68 decision. Tulsa is led in scoring by Maya Mayberry who averages 13.5 points per game. Desiree Lewis averages 4.8 rebounds per game to lead the team in the category. Wyvette Mayberry is the assist leader for Tulsa with 19 assists this season. Tulsa averages 55.3 points per game on 33.6 percent shooting from the field, including a 31.9 percent mark from the three-point line.

The Cougars have shown that they are not afraid to shoot three-pointers and on the flipside they are one of the best at defending the three-point shot. UH ranks second in the league and 29th nationally in three-point FG defense, holding opponents to 24.9 percent from long-range.

Houston forced 30 Memphis turnovers, its most since Feb. 18, 2020 when the team forced 23 against Cincinnati. This season UH has earned 74 steals and is averaging 10.1 steals per game. Houston is 36th in the NCAA in steals per game and second in the league. When it comes to forcing turnovers, Houston is one of the best, averaging 20.78 forced turnovers per game the Cougars are 29th in the NCAA and first in The American in the category.
