Cougars return home after five-game road swing
HOUSTON – Having won 11 of its past 12 games, the University of Houston Softball team returns home to host No. 21/18 Baylor for a Tuesday doubleheader at Cougar Softball Stadium.
The matchup marks the fourth time in the last five seasons the two teams have faced each other. Despite trailing in the all-time series, Houston has found recent success against Baylor, having won four of the last five contests with the Bears, including three in a row.
Last season, the Cougars traveled to Waco, Texas and swept the doubleheader, marking the first time in the series' history that Houston has taken both games of a doubleheader. The 2-0 shutout in the first game was the third time Houston has shutout Baylor.

- Houston is coming off a week-long break, and looks to continue its hot stretch, where the Cougars put together the program's longest winning streak (11 games) since 2011.
- Having won 11 of its past 12 games, Houston has outscored its opponents 105-26 during that stretch, erupting with six 10-run performances and launching 26 home runs.
- That same span has seen Houston's pitching staff shut down opposing batters with four shutouts and another three surrendering just one run. Seven of the 11 wins have been run-rules.
- Through the first five weeks of the 2020 campaign, Houston has made itself known as one of the most powerful offenses in the country with 36 home runs. That mark not only has already surpassed last year's total, but is also on pace to be one of the highest numbers in program history.
- After helping lead the Cougars to a 4-1 record at the Boyd Gaming Classic (2/29-3/1), sophomore catcher Kati Ray Brown was named The American Player of the Week for the first time in her career. In Houston's five games, Brown bolstered a .583 batting average, posting a 1.333 slugging percentage and launched three home runs in the process.
- Not only has the Houston offense come out firing this season, but the Cougars have pounded their opponents in the opening innings. Heading into the matchup, the Cougars are outscoring their opposition 80-29 in the first three innings. The opening frame for Houston has proven to be a valuable one for the team, as the Cougars are 7-1 on the year when they score in the first inning. Overall, Houston is 12-2 when scoring first.
