Cougars fall in both games of doubleheader
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team fell to No. 21/18 Baylor in both games of its doubleheader on Tuesday inside Cougar Softball Stadium.
With the defeats, the Cougars move to 16-7 on the season, while the Lady Bears sit at 19-5. Tuesday's doubleheader was Houston's fourth and fifth games of the season squaring up against a ranked opponent.
The day started with the Cougars dropping the first contest, 1-0, before putting together a comeback that proved to be too much to overcome, falling 10-6.
In game one, sophomore pitcher Rachel Hertenberger tossed a gem that found her throw her third complete game of the season, having surrendered just two hits in the process. She threw 88 pitches in her seven innings of work.
The nighttime matchup saw graduate transfer Becca Schulte go 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Senior outfielder Lindsey Stewart joined Schulte as those with home runs in the game. As a team, the Cougars have now hit at least one home run in eight of their last nine games.
