Cougars enter conference tournament as 10th seed

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team will open postseason play at The American Athletic Conference Tournament against Wichita State on Friday at Mohegan Sun Casino & Resort. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. CT and the game can be viewed on ESPN3.

Wichita State enters the contest at the 7^th-seed and Houston will be playing as the 10^th-seed. The full bracket can be found by clicking HERE.

GAME NOTES

• Houston enters The American Athletic Conference Tournament with a 12-18 overall record this season, including a 5-11 mark in conference play. The Cougars are the 10th-seed.

• Houston has four players averaging double-digits this season led by Dymond Gladney with 11.4 points per game, followed by Tatyana Hill with 11.0 points per game. Dorian Branch contributes 10.4 points per contest, followed by Julia Blackshell-Fair with 10.0.

• Houston is averaging 61.6 points per game on 38.3 percent shooting from the field and a 26.8 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 67.8 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 42.1 percent and 31.4 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.

• Hill leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 6.5 rebounds per contest.

• Houston is a force to be reckoned with on the boards this season, averaging 37.4 rebounds per game including over 15 offensive boards per game.

• Houston forces 18.5 turnovers per game, with 15 or more forced turnovers in 26 of its 29 games this season. Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars are experts at protecting the rim, entering the game ranked 51th nationally in blocks (123) and 69th in Blocks Per Game (4.1).
• Wichita State enters Friday's contest with an 15-14 overall record and 7-9 mark in conference play. The Shockers are the the 7th-seeded team in the tournament

• Wichita State is averaging 63.9 points per game on 39.1 percent shooting from the field and 29.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

• The Shockers enters their third season under Head Coach Keitha Adams and are led in scoring by Mariah McCully who is averaging 12.9 points per game. Seraphine Bastin leads the Shockers on the boards with 5.3 rebounds per game, and in assists we well with 93 this season.

Individual session tickets for the 2020 American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship are set to go on sale. The championship will take place March 6-9, 2020, with all games being played at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, for the seventh-consecutive season.

Tickets for the opening rounds are on sale and range from $15-$40 depending on the session. Individual session tickets may be purchased at the Mohegan Sun Arena box office, which is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 12 p.m.- 8 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m.- 6 p.m. on Sunday.
