Cougars’ win streak ends at 11 games
LAS VEGAS – The University of Houston Softball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first, but the fast start would not be enough, as the Cougars fell to New Mexico State by a score of 10-8 on Sunday.
The loss snaps the Cougars' 11-game winning streak, who fall to 16-5 on the year, while the Aggies move to 11-6.
Houston's eight runs in the first ties a season-high for runs in an inning, which was set in the win over UNLV. With a pair of home runs against NMSU, the Cougars extend their streak of consecutive games with a home run to seven, the longest since 2013. Houston has hit 20 home runs during that span.

KEY INNINGS
1st | Houston got off to blazing hot start, with a single from senior outfielder Lindsey Stewart, quickly put a runner on for the Cougars. After Stewart came around to score, Houston drew three consecutive two-out walks to load for the bases for graduate transfer Becca Schulte. She then took a 1-1 pitch and sent it over the wall for her fourth homer of the season to give the Cougars the early, 5-0, advantage. The rally continued, as back-to-back singles from sophomore catcher Kati Ray Brown and junior infielder Rock Benavides put a pair of runners on for Stewart, who connected on a three-run bomb to cap off the eight-run frame for Houston.
4th | The Aggies found a rebuttal of their own with a three-run home run in the inning to tie the game, after scoring eight unanswered runs.
5th | A two-run home run from New Mexico State gave the Aggies their first lead, which proved to be the difference in the game.
