Gladney notches a career-high 29 points, including eight three’s
NEW ORLEANS – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team faced an early deficit but stormed back to knock off Tulane in an overtime 60-66 decision on Saturday afternoon at Devlin Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston fell behind early, due to strong three-point shooting from Tulane in the opening two minutes of play. Trailing 9-0 after the media timeout, the Cougars countered with a scoring run of their own and held Tulane scoreless for over three minutes down the stretch. Tulane surged toward the end of the frame, scoring seven straight points as Houston headed into the break trailing, 22-10.
Both teams battled back and forth in the opening minutes of the frame as Tulane went on a 7-3 scoring surge to hold a 29-13 lead at the halfway point of the frame. Dymond Gladney set her feet and swished a corner three-pointer off an inbounds play to put the Cougars within 10 points. Houston closed out the frame on an 11-0 scoring run as Gladney sank two three-pointers to get the Cougars within five points as both team head into the break with the score 29-24, Tulane.
The Cougars showed fight, opening the third quarter with a 8-0 scoring run. Gladney continued to anchor UH on both ends of the floor, hitting a pair of three-point baskets, one of which gave Houston its first lead of the day. The Houston defense held Tulane scoreless for over four minutes to gain control of the ball game. The Cougars continued to control the pace of the game as their run extended to 13-2 over the next three minutes of play. UH headed into the final quarter with a 42-35 lead.
Tulane managed to get with one-point with five and a half left to play behind timely shooting. With 5:09 left to play Gladney sank yet another three-pointer to extend the Cougar lead to five points. Both teams battled back and forth on the boards as the Cougar defense held Tulane scoreless for over two minutes, before free throws would make it a one-point game with two minutes to play. The Green Wave reclaimed the lead with 1:20 on the clock behind a timely three-pointer before both teams headed to their benches after a UH timeout with the score 53-51. Maya Jones remained aggressive in the paint, drawing a foul and hitting two timely free throws with under a minute to play to tie the score at 53-53.
Gladney scored the opening points of overtime on a fast break lay-up to get things going for UH. Back-to-back three-point baskets from Jones and Branch extended the Cougar lead to seven points with two minutes to play. Houston toughed it out at the free throw line down the stretch hitting six down the stretch to take a 66-60 victory over Tulane.
