Houston Drops Road Contest to USF

Gladney notches team-high 16 points
TAMPA – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team fell behind early in a 74-45 loss to USF Wednesday night at the Yuengling Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cougars got out to a slow start, not able to get things going offensively in the opening five minutes of play and taking a 9-2 lead at the first media TO of the contest. The Bulls would continue on a 14-0 run, before taking a 18-2 lead at the quarter break.
Shots began to fall for Houston in the second frame as Julia Blackshell-Fair, Dorian Branch and Dymond Gladney made their way onto the box score. USF hit 4-of-5 from the field heading into the halfway point of the frame, to extend it lead to 33-11. Shots began to fall for UH at the later part of the second frame, as Blackshell-Fair and Branch attacked the USF defense. USF would ultimately hold on to its lead and head to the half time break leading 40-18.
Both teams battled in the third quarter, as the Cougars scored nine early points and slowed down the USF offense. Each team scored 14 points in the frame, but the Bulls remained on top, 54-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
USF embarked on a 7-1 run to start the fourth quarter, before the Cougars called a timeout to talk things over. Gladney found her way into the lane on back-to-back possessions and became the first Cougar to reach double-figures in the game. Gladney would continue to pace the Cougars after the break and closeout the contest with a team-high 16 points as Houston fell to USF, 74-45.
