Cougars score game’s first 11 points, use 17-0 run early in fourth quarter to finish 4-0 on Italy trip
COSTA MASNAGA, Italy – The University of Houston Men's Basketball team scored the first 11 points and never looked back in taking a 91-60 win over Dream Italy on Thursday inside Palazzeto Costa Masnaga during the final game on its tour of Italy.
Junior guard DeJon Jarreau led all players with 22 points, while sophomore guard Cameron Tyson added 13 points with a pair of 3-pointers, including 10 points in the final period alone. Junior forward Fabian White Jr. finished with 12 first-half points, while junior forward Justin Gorham added 10 points in the Cougars' fourth straight win in Italy.
The Cougars wasted little time in setting the tone, jumping out to an 11-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Jarreau, who was named the 2019 American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year, scored five straight points midway through that stretch.
Dream Italy continued to battle and moved to within 51-41 when Anfernee Hidalgo sank a pair of free throws with 5:42 remaining in the third period. However, that would be as close as they would get to the Cougars.
Sophomore guard Quentin Grimes made two free throws of his own and redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills a basket and a 3-pointer to cap a 7-0 Houston run and give the Cougars a 58-41 lead with 3:29 left in the third quarter.
The Cougars broke the game open in the final period, using a 14-0 run early to build an 81-58 lead.
Ricardo Scroccaro finished with 14 points to lead Dream Italy. Lorenzo Rota posted 12, and Hidalgo added 11 points in the loss.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will take a boat tour of Lake Como on Friday morning and visit the surrounding area before heading back to Houston on Saturday morning.
