New training courts part of major facilities upgrade
HOUSTON – As part of its overall facilities upgrade, the University of Houston Volleyball program's new training floor installation in the Athletics/Alumni Center has been completed.
Â
"Our team now has a training area that rivals the very elite programs in NCAA Division I Volleyball," Houston first-year head coach David Rehr said. "It's a huge step for the program and will have a profound impact on the future successes of our teams."
Â
The three-court layout, covering nearly 18,000-square-feet, has been upgraded with the installation of Connor Sports' VIP II maple hardwood flooring, while the permanent, fixed-resilient system is specifically designed for high impact activities.
Â
"The Connor VIP II floor is the best option for our facility and our student-athletes," Senior Associate Athletics Director for Capital Projects T.J. Meagher said. "The sub-floor design was engineered to minimize the ballistic impacts of jumping from our student-athletes, which will help them recover faster and allow for training at a high level throughout the season."
Â
The new equipment and training courts are part of Houston Volleyball's capital improvement project that consists of the Cougars moving their team area into the $60-million Fertitta Center. A 4,500-square-foot space near the court will house the team's locker room, players' lounge, nutrition center as well as a satellite training room.
