Houston duo caps off remarkable weekend at Penn Relays
HOUSTON – University of Houston Track & Field team caps off a historic performance at the 125th Penn Relays with a pair of American Athletic Conference Athlete of the week honors. Mario Burke and Felipe Valencia earned American Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday.Â

After helping the Cougars become only the sixth team in Penn Relays history to sweep the sprint relays, Burke earns men's athlete of the week honors. The senior helped Houston to a trio of first-place finishes in the men's 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, and 4x400-meter relay. Burke, alongside Amere Lattin, Jermaine Holt, and Obi Igbokwe now hold the fastest collegiate time of the season in the men's 4x400-meter relay. Individually, Burke posted a time of 10.20 in the men's 100-meter relay to take home first-place in the event.

Valencia concluded back-to-back weekends with top-two finishes in the men's shot put, posting the best mark in the league this season in the event at 60-9 ÂĽ (18.52), for second-place.
Houston has now racked up nine weekly honors since the start of the outdoor slate. The award marks the first for Burke and Valencia during the outdoor season. The Cougars have taken home 20 total weekly honors in 2018-19.
UP NEXT
The Cougars return home to the Carl Lewis Complex for the Tom Tellez Invitational on May 3 for one final tune-up before the 2019 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
