Wharry Wins Discus in Waco, Cougars Qualify to Five Finals at Penn Relays

Graduate Canaan Wharry earns victory in the men’s discus at the Michael Johnson Invitational
PHILADELPHIA and WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Track & Field team earned one victory at the Michael Johnson Invitational and advanced to the finals in five events at Penn Relays on Friday.

Graduate Canaan Wharry secured the only victory of the day in the men's discus, recording a mark of 52.08m on his first attempt.

Senior Zaeda Houff finished in second place in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 54.16m while redshirt sophomore Ty Lott placed third in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 63.56m.

PENN RELAYS
The men's 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of junior Jaelyn Reeves-Lile, freshman Micah Washington, freshman Sean Aigboboh, and graduate Trey East III, placed third in the Championship of America final with a time of 1:21.98.Â

The Cougars advanced to the finals in the men's 100-meter, women's 100-meter, women's 4x100-meter relay, women's 4x400-meter relay, and men's 4x400-meter relay.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of junior Ruth Agadama, sophomore Taylor Jackson, senior Matilde Ochoa, and freshman Alexa Smothers, qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 44.74.

Senior Louie Hinchliffe (10.16), Aigboboh (10.27) and Reeves-Lile (10.30) qualified for the men's 100-meter final. Smothers secured a spot in the women's 100-meter final with her preliminary time of 11.64.

Freshman Kamree Wolridge, sophomore Carlysia Cresser, sophomore Kali Magana and freshman Jada Stanford qualified for the women's 4x400-meter relay Championship of America final with a time of 3:35.46.

The men's 4x400-meter relay concluded the afternoon at Penn Relays by qualifying for the Championship of America final as sophomore Damarien Jacobs, sophomore King Taylor, freshman William King IV and freshman Dominic Harper finished with a time of 3:05.80.Â
