Cougars on a roll, having won nine of past 11 contests
HOUSTON – For the first time in seven games, the University of Houston Softball team returns to Cougar Softball Stadium to host its final midweek competition of the season against Sam Houston State on Tuesday. First pitch for the contest is slated for 6 p.m.
The Cougars enter the battle with the Bearkats having won the past six battles with Sam Houston State, including one this season. In the 19-year history between the two programs, Houston has only dropped one contest at home, holding an overall record of 13-1 against SHSU.
With that loss coming back in 2001, the Cougars look to extend their home winning streak against the Bearkats to 13 games. Houston last met with SHSU on the opening weekend of the 2019 campaign, where Houston came out on top 2-1.

Houston put together another successful week after posting a 3-1 record, having won its fourth conference series of the season. To start off the week, Arielle James helped lead the Cougars to a 4-3, comeback win at Texas State, where she doubled home the game-tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the top of the seventh.
The Cougars then carried that momentum over to its series-opening win over UCF, where Savannah Heebner notched her fifth shutout of the season in the 3-0 victory. Houston's Friday night win marked the 100th career victory for Head Coach Kristin Vesely.
After falling in game two of the series against the Knights, the Cougars bounced back to claim the rubber match 9-1. That contest saw Houston's offense explode for a season-high in hits (18) and extra-base hits (5).
Along with the 18 hits, six different Cougars posted multiple hits in the game, which included a pair of three-hit outings and a 4-for-4 performance from senior outfielder Maya Thomas. The series finale also saw the Cougars show off their clutch gene, batting .538 (7-for-13) with two outs on the day.

In her past 10 outings, Thomas has put up a blistering .613 mark, recording five multiple-hit performances in the process.
