Houston Hits the Road for Weekend Test at Memphis

Cougars Take three-game winning streak on the road
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team will take its three-game winning streak on the road when its travels to Memphis for a 1 p.m. matchup Sunday at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Sunday's contest can be seen on ESPNU and heard live by fans via the home for Houston Women's Basketball Radio, UHCougars.com/wbbradio. Here are five names, numbers, news items and storylines you need to know about Saturday's American Athletic Conference game against Memphis:
THE LONG GAME – The Cougars have become one of the best three-point shooting teams in the conference. Memphis is one of the best teams in the conference when defending the three, holding teams to 28.4 percent from long-range
MILESTONE MOMO – Senior forward Serithia Hawkins is a threat all over the floor for Houston Hawkins is averaging 7.4 boards a game, and recently became only the second Cougar with 900+ boards and 1000 boards.
FROM DOWNTOWN – The Cougars continue to be a 3-point threat under Hughey. After setting the school record for 3-pointers made in each of the last two seasons, Houston has made 185 triples so far in 2018-19, which is second on the single-season all-time list in the category.
SCORE OFTEN, SCORE FAST – Houston is a tough team offensively, currently ranking second in the conference in scoring offense with 70.4 points per game, only second to UConn
H-TOWN LOCKDOWN – Houston continues to play lockdown defense this season. The Cougars have forced at least 15 turnovers in 23 of its 25 games and their 20.64 forced per game ranks 30th nationally.
SERIES vs. MEMPHIS
Sunday's meeting is the 33rd all-time between the two teams in a series that dates back to 1997.
Houston trails 14-19 in the all-time in the series, winning one of the last five, including a 66-55 win last season in Houston.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Houston enters Wednesday's game with a 14-11 overall record and an 8-4 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Cougars have posted an 8-6 record on the road this season.
Houston's Jasmyne Harris paces the Cougars in points per game with 16.2 per contest, while Angela Harris also scores in double figures at 10.5 per night. Angela Harris scored a season-high 23 points in the win over Wichita State, becoming the third Houston player to reach 1,000 career points this season against Temple on Feb. 5. Octavia Barnes has scored at least one three-pointer in the last 16 games for the Cougars, posting double-figures in five of the last seven contest and a career-high 24 points against Tulane. Dorian Branch has emerged as a offensive threat for the Houston, going 4-of-6 from three-point range and scoring 17 points in the first half against Tulane.
Houston is averaging 70.4 points per game on 40.6 percent shooting from the field and a 30.6 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 68.2 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 41.2 percent and 32.5 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
Serithia Hawkins leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game after matching a season-high with back-to-back games of 12 against Wichita State and Cincinnati. She recently became the second Cougar in program history to score 1,000 points and pull down 900 rebounds.
Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country this season. The Cougars rank third in The American in steals (258), and second in steals per game (10.3), and turnovers forced per game (20.64). The Cougars' steal numbers rank 30th in the nation, respectively, while the turnover forced average places them 24th in the NCAA.

Memphis enters Sunday's contest with an 10-16 overall record and a 5-8 mark in American Athletic Conference play. Memphis has dropped four of its last five most recently losing to UConn in a 102-45 decision. Memphis is 6-8 when playing at home this season.
Memphis has a pair of players averaging double figures in scoring this season, Jamirah Shutes scores 13.8 per game to lead the team, Alana Davis is second on the team with 12.1 points per game.
Memphis is allowing opponents to score 63.8 points per game, allowing 38.3 percent shooting from the field and 28.4 percent from long-range.
