Cougars play at McNeese
HOUSTON – For the first time in 2019, the University of Houston Softball team will hit the road and travel to Lake Charles, La., on Wednesday for a midweek contest with McNeese scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Houston's history with McNeese dates back to 2002, where the Cougars began the all-time series winning 10 of the first 11 contests between the two teams. Last season, the Cougars ended a three-game skid against the Cowgirls, defeating McNeese 5-4 in nine innings.
With Houston winning the game in nine innings, it marked the fourth time in the series history the two squads went beyond seven frames. The win also improved Houston's overall series record against McNeese to 12-7.

Last Time Out
The Cougars continued their 10-game homestand to open up the 2019 campaign with a 3-2 mark at the Houston Classic, taking down Nevada, Maryland and Louisiana-Monroe in the process.
After falling to Maryland in the weekend-opener, the Cougars quickly bounced back and defeated Nevada 4-0, thanks in large part to senior pitcher Presley Bell, who tossed a complete-game shutout in the win. Junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart ignited the Houston offense with her leadoff home run in the bottom of the first.
Houston carried that momentum over to its rematch game with Maryland, as the Cougars downed the Terps 12-4 in five innings. In that matchup, sophomore infielder Charese Wyatt put together the best game of her career, going 2-for-3 with a career-high four RBIs and recording the first home run of her career. Senior outfielder Maya Thomas and junior infielder Sarah Queen each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored in the game.
In the final game of the weekend, Bell stepped into the circle and was nearly perfect against the Louisiana-Monroe, having retired the first 13 batters she faced, taking a perfect game into the fifth inning. She finished the game with a career-high eight strikeouts and didn't allow a walk to the Warhawks.
Just 'Bell'ieve
In what turned out to be one of the most dominant weekends in her career, senior pitcher Presley Bell finished the Houston Classic (Feb. 15-17) with a 2-0 record, posting complete-game shutouts in both of her starts. She finished the with weekend without allowing an earned run over the course of 14.0 innings.
After leading the Cougars to a 4-0 victory over Nevada (Feb. 15), where she surrendered just two walks to the Wolf Pack, Bell topped that performance and was nearly perfect against Louisiana-Monroe (Feb. 17), allowing just three hits to the Warhawks and striking out a career-high eight batters in the 4-0 win.
As a result of her performances, Bell was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll, marking the fourth time in her career she has earned the honor.
