Houston Walks Away With Six Titles in Season Opener

Cougar throwers highlight day with broken program record

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quivell Jordan got things going for the Cougars with a second-place finish and collegiate-best time in the 60-meter hurdles. Jordan took silver in the event with a time of 7.99.
The Houston throwers would come up big in the Cougars first outing of the season as Nora Monie got things rolling with a first-place finish in the women's shot put. Monie earned a mark of 15.94m (52-3.75) on her second attempt to take top honors in the event.
Over at the weight throw newcomer Miles Marhofer made his Houston debut count by shattering the program record in the event with a throw of 20.83m (68-4.25) on his fourth attempt. The junior beat out the field by over three meters and his mark is also a collegiate-best. Johnny Howell took third-place in the event with a collegiate-best mark of 15.12m (49-7.25) on his third attempt.
Naomi Taylor continues to be a force for the women's team as she cruised to a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31.
Ashley Seymour clocked a time of 7.59 in the 60-meter for a first-place finish in her section and fourth-place finish overall.
The men's 60-meter would come down to the wire, as Terence Ware edged out the competition with a time of 6.797 in the event for first-place. Nicholas Alexander would clock a time of 6.817 for fourth-place in the event.
The Houston throwing personnel would continue to have a stellar day as Priscilla Adejokun and Mikaila Martin took first and second-place in the weight throw with collegiate-best marks. Adejokun took gold with a throw of 20.50m (67-3.25) on her fifth attempt, as Martin launched a throw of 19.41m (63-8.25) to take second-place in the event.
Marhofer and Howell would once again post a pair of top-three finishes as the duo took second and third-place in the men's shot put with throws of 15.51m (50-10.75) and 14.75m (48-3.75), respectively.
Over at the Pole Vault Antonio Ruiz and Christyan Sampy took the top-two places on the men's side as Ruiz cleared 5.30m (17-4.50) and Sampy cleared 4.90m (16-0.75). On the women's side Sarah Howe finished second after clearing 3.75m (12-3.50).
